TRUST Society, a non-profit,non-religious,Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) located in Trichy - Tamil Nadu in India, founded by Dr.K.Ramakrishnan and K.Prabhakar, is one of the few famous charity organizations for mental-health in South India. It is run by a group of doctors, medical personnel and dedicated social workers with financial support from the founders and few other philanthropists. T.R.U.S.T is actively working for the cause of mental disability, wandering mental illness and provides comprehensive mental care for the underprivileged people of the society in & around districts of Trichy.
The TRUST’s humble beginnings trace back to 1994, when Dr.K.Ramakrishnan began his work in mental health field by starting a Neuropsychiatry centre in Trichy and dedicated 1 floor in a 4-storey hospital facility for the TRUST activities and contributed free professional services, time & part of his earnings to the welfare of mental health rehabilitation, day care, occupational-therapy & suicide prevention programs. TRUST, registered & established in year 2000 with the objective of supporting the underpriviledged mentally ill and wandering destitutes - is actively working for the cause of mental illness and provides comprehensive care for the underprivileged mentally disabled, destitute, patients.
TRUST in the last decade extended help & succour and a new lease of life to nearly 2000 unfortunate persons from mentally challenged, wandering, abandoned or orphaned to old dying destitutes. The center provides individualized services, treatment, care, rehabilitation and education to those in distress. After registering as a Society in 2000, since then the institution has grown from strength to strength and it now houses and cares for more than 300 mentally disabled and its growing every day.
The services of the TRUST are
Nambikkai – Rehabilitation, Occupation therapy, suicide prevention centre,
Shanthivanam – A national integrity project with Residential Home for mentally ill and destitute, homeless
wanderers, who are poor, men/women/children, educated/illiterate and from all religions and from all parts of India.
These clients are housed, medically cared for and counseled for their full recovery and return to normal life. Every
effort is made to reunite the cured and rehabilitated clients with their families or other foster families and/or
find meaningful job opportunities for their economic well being.
Puthuyir – Alcohol Anonymous & Crisis Intervention Centre,
Velicham – Community Awareness & Rural mental health education,
TRIMAS (Trust Research Institute of Mental Health and Social Sciences) - Imparting the knowledge of psychiatry,
psychopharmacology and skills of social work in the mental health field.

Our Vision and Mission
Mental Health is the foremost aspect in the definition of health by WHO, yet, the most neglected field in the country, with meager Mental Health professionals, Mental Health centers, Hospitals. But with increasing urbanization, computerization and demands of daily life mental illness are alarmingly raising. It’s predicted that by 2010, Depression. (Mental Illness) is going to be the 2nd leading cause of morbidity in the world.
Gajanan in the streets.We as a society are ill informed about 1Mental Health issues, people who suffer with mental illness and are either ignored and invisibilized as well as for no fault of them treated
with stigma and contempt by the society at large.
It is for these invisible people that TRUST came with existence with a view to shift mental health from the periphery to the mainstream.

Mission
To promote dissemination of knowledge and information and to educate the public about mental health, mental
illness, treatment and positive mental Health on a scientific basis
To promote enactment of legislation relating to matters concerning the mentally disabled, their rehabilitation
and also to other marginalized members of society.
To ensure the mentally disabled to get back their basic human rights, right to treatment, right to employment.
For holistic rehabilitation of mentally ill issues concerning their families, communities and society has to be
seriously looked into.
Pleasant familial relationship go a long way in aiding a mentally ill to recover. (Stress free family
environment)
Drifted disabled, distraught wandering mentally ill should be considered as our brethrens. They should be
provided adequate tender care; treatment and effort should be taken to reintegrate them with their families.
To start the network of rehabilitation centers, residential centers and fully equipped psychiatric hospitals
with comprehensive programme for prevention intervention and rehabilitation.
We should not stop once the medical treatment of the mentally ill is over. We must ensure that it is absolutely necessary for them to lead a meaningful life. To achieve this we have to work at the macro level, influence
policymaking and network with appropriate authorities, the media, and other NGOs, public and even children.
IN nutshell, our mission is to facilitate the journey of the disowned mentally disabled from crisis to stability, merge them into mainstream of life and enable them to function in society with the right to self-dignity.
